March 25, 2010; KGW.com | In a decision that may be something of a warning shot for nonprofits and philanthropies, a trial court judge in Oregon has held a director liable for bad investments on behalf of the Wintercross Foundation. The director, Ann Ellis, must repay $2 million to the foundation and has been ordered not to serve as director of any charity again . . . ever. Believe me, we want the back story on this as much as you do. We can likely expect the case to be appealed.—Ruth McCambridge
