November 11, 2010; Source: The Daily Tell | The California HealthCare Foundation has just announced Innovations for the Underserved, a $10 million fund that will invest in nonprofits and businesses developing “innovative services, devices and technologies that can significantly reduce costs and improve access to healthcare in California”. Grants may range from a $50,000 shot in the arm to $3 million over the lifespan of the innovative company or service – and they may be given at any stage in the innovation process. This fund appears to want to adjust itself to its natural environment. It has the potential of helping to introduce new ways of doing business just as the system is poised for the introduction of healthcare reform.—Ruth McCambridge
