November 17, 2010; Source: Wichita Business Journal | Nonprofits that have interesting stories to tell but aren’t sure if anyone will listen will be heartened by this article in the Wichita Business Journal about the second “speed dating” for reporters event. Organized by the Nonprofit Chamber of Service, the two-hour event gave nonprofits the chance to give “elevator pitches of what they do” to members of the local media.

The Business Journal‘s Josh Heck, one of 10 media participants—others were from television stations, magazines, newspapers, and radio stations—said he found it helpful. “Not only did I leave with a stack of brochures and business cards, I also picked up a few story ideas to consider in the coming weeks.”

Perry Shuckman, executive director of the Nonprofit Chamber, said the “speed dating” event was one of four the group has organized to help local nonprofits market themselves and get their messages to larger audience. “The bottom line is to increase community engagement with nonprofits,” Schuckman says.—Bruce Trachtenberg
