New Austin Ordinance—No Profit from Pets

December 16, 2010; Source: Community Impact | The Austin City Council has passed an ordinance banning the sale of pets purely for profit. To sell a pet in Austin you must be a registered nonprofit or you will face a fine of $200. This is, the article reports, part of Austin’s plan to become a “no kill” city. The last retail pet store in Austin closed in August. Interesting—a no-profit zone where the sale of pets is concerned.—Ruth McCambridge
