May 26, 2011; Source: Government Technology | San Francisco will soon call upon its fifty most skilled laptop warriors for a weekend-long competition pairing the Bay Area's web development professionals with various nonprofit organizations and companies involved in cross-pollenating technology with activism. It's a jam session that's not for the faint of heart; competitors are tasked with creating an app that promotes social good in 24 short hours.

The event, Hack For Change, is sponsored by Change.org in partnership with Code for America (a nonprofit advocating for open government) and the tech-culture website Mashable. These heavy hitters will be bringing $10,000 in prize money to the fight, to be awarded to each of the top three apps as seed funding for their further development.

The organizers are soliciting ideas for projects from everyday users. So far the list is short, and leaves much to be desired, which is why we encourage you to add your idea.
