A Creative Strategy for Homeless Housing Fundraising

November 7, 2011; Source: MLive.com | In Detroit, the concept of “housing first” for the homeless is becoming a core part of the nonprofit homeless housing provider’s arsenal. The nonprofit Neighborhood Support Organization is doing a $50 million renovation of the former Michigan Bell Building to create 155 one-bedroom apartments for homeless adults. To get this project underway with money for both the rehab and the associated services, NSO has launched a campaign titled “A Place to Call Home,” which has volunteers hosting housewarming parties. The NSO hopes to see such contributions as blankets, sheets, towels, and pots and pans, because the homeless tend to come to these apartments with nothing. The NSO has developed a gift registry at Target for each apartment with 100 items valued at $750, ranging from a $65 microwave to a 49-cent saltshaker. The overall project is still $10 million short, so it isn’t clear that the project will succeed. But the housewarming party strategy, linking potential donors to specific homeless adults and their apartments, seems a creative strategy for personalizing fundraising.—Rick Cohen

I just read an older story from Nov 7, 2011(A Creative Strategy for Homeless Housing) regarding homeless fundraising efforts which toke place sometime in 2011. I commend this and any other similar efforts. I only hope these and any other efforts like it which support and facilitate to the well-being of the homeless population will continue to provide the much needed resources for the homeless. Furthermore, I believe that it is a most vital contribution, to any homeless segment of any region. Homelessness is a very serious issue, and housing is one of the most crucial, and vital starting points to the various homeless populations, and any organization, non-profit, or business, or otherwise which contributes to the homeless, will contributes not only to the homeless individual, and will promote to their success, they will indeed will contribute to the success of its very own region, and state, and as well its country, and world.

And as we all know this just only makes the World a much better place

How can it be wrong to desire and want to direct, and devote all your energy, all effort, knowledge, strength, focus, talents, skills, gifts, to Hopefully making the Lives of others much more than being destitute…and deprived…disadvantaged… and disapproved…why turn this desire upside-down?

It does NOT make sense to me…

I still maintain my hopefulness, and am still very grateful to the many people which share the this same thought and pursue and direct their energy, efforts, knowledge, strength, focus, talents, skills, gifts, and there hope…toward making the World better NOT Worst…
