Second Mile Weighing Options Including Closure

November 20, 2011; Source: WNEPA statement from Second Mile, the charity at the center of the Sandusky scandal, reveals that the board is weighing all options, including closing completely. Other options it cites are restructuring its programs to function on much less money and transferring its programs to other organizations. The first and the third seem not to be mutually exclusive, but it will be interesting to see what would entice another organization to pick them up at this point. The organization has a staff of thirty. Sandusky, the founder of Second Mile, and the former defensive coordinator at Penn State, has been accused of sexually abusing fifteen young boys.—Ruth McCambridge
