On Wednesday, November 6th at 12:00 pm EST NPQ’s Ruth McCambridge and Jim East will interview Eric Newton Special Advisor to the President of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Once the Google Hangout starts broadcasting the video will also stream live above. If you are a member of Google+ please join the Hangout event so you can participate in the question and answer portion.

This exciting conversation will focus on what all nonprofits can learn from the “canary in the mine” situation in which journalism finds itself.

As for many nonprofits, there is no new normal for journalism, its business model is blown up, it is facing changes in its relationships with readers that strike to the core of journalistic processes, and advances in technology are continuously challenging the status quo. Yet these changes appear to be highlighting some core principles of practice that nonprofits and indeed enterprise of all types need to think about.

Newton has recently authored a textbook entitled Searchlights and Sunglasses: Field Notes From the Digital Age of Journalism.

Joining McCambridge & Newton in the discussion will be Jim East, a board member both of NPQ and Oklahoma Watch, consultant to foundations and a longtime journalist. This will be one of a number of conversations NPQ will be having with major philanthropic figures.
