• As much as I want to refute what Coates is saying, it rings true. The biggest question I (and I think a majority of white people who do NOT want to perpetuate institutionalized racism or identity-based politics) is: what can we do to start changing these paradigms? It seems that social leaders in the political, media, and corporate (both for-profit and non-profit) sectors are too afraid to approach this topic, much less provide platforms for change. How do we encourage the kind of fearless leadership we need to create the kind of social movement we needed in the 1960s and also again today?

I’d argue that Andrew Jackson deserves that title. Foul-mouthed, racist, violent and just an all around douchebag.
