The decision last week by the U.S. branch of international charity World Vision to retract an employment policy change regarding employees in legal same-sex marriages led one member of the board to step down on Friday.

Jacquelline Fuller, Google’s director of corporate giving, had served on the board of World Vision U.S. for just over two years. She said in an email to the Associated Press that although she remains a “huge fan” of the group’s work on behalf of the poor, she “disagreed with the decision to exclude gay employees who marry.”

Although many in the vocal Christian community appear to endorse the World Vision decision, Faithful America, a progressive organization describing itself as “the largest and fastest growing online community of Christians putting faith into action for social justice,” mobilized more than 16,000 of its members to sign an online petition calling for the members of World Vision’s board from Google to step down. At the time of the petition, there were two; now only John Park remains.

The Guardian reports, “World Vision’s president, Richard Stearns, released a statement thanking Fuller for her service. A World Vision spokesman, Steve Panton, said no other board members had resigned [and that] the board of directors met on Wednesday and would meet again within the next few days ‘to assess our past and future actions.’”—Jason Schneiderman
