Stephen Lerner

Stephen Lerner, a senior fellow at the Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor, is a labor and community organizer and strategist who has spent more than three decades organizing hundreds of thousands of janitors, farmworkers, garment workers, and other low-wage workers into unions. He was the director of SEIU’s (Service Employees International Union) property service division, served on SEIU’s international board, and is the architect of the Justice for Janitors campaign. Lerner has published numerous articles charting a path for a 21st-century labor movement, and in 2014 he helped launch the Bargaining for the Common Good campaign.
