Phil Fitzgerald, Director of Grantmaking, The Philadelphia Foundation

No one could say we are in stable times; any number of revenue streams appear to be in question as threats to federal, state and local funding for programs as well as charitable contributions surfaced at the end of 2017. Surviving and thriving even in the midst of such turbulence requires foresight—an understanding of risks and how to mitigate them in your nonprofit.

This grounded practice workshop will help staff and boards identify and address risk in their own organizations. It is based on a recently released, nationally based study of nonprofit financial health (based on Form 990 data) by SeaChange Capital Partners, Oliver Wyman, and GuideStar entitled, The Financial Health of the United States Nonprofit Sector: Facts and Observations, as well as similar studies in New York and Philadelphia.

PARTICIPANTS WILL GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF:

  • The most common risk factors for nonprofit financial wellbeing and how they showed up in these three studies
  • How risks show up differently in different kinds of nonprofits
  • The short and long-term steps that organizations should take to better mitigate those risks
  • Special attention will be paid to the various leadership roles that staff as well as board members and funders can play in supporting nonprofit fiscal health
  • The value of having a regional approach as well as an organizational one. A community snapshot can aid in putting a particular nonprofit’s financial health in context among its geographic peers

Workshop recording will be available to all paid registrants for 12 months prior to purchase. If you have any questions or concerns please email [email protected].
