Reparations
Wednesday, November 20th, 2024

In honor of National Reparations Action Day, NPQ is sharing a curated collection of articles we have published on reparations in its many forms and frames.

The United Nations Principles on Reparation declares that for any reparations strategy to be effective and holistic it must include five forms of reparations: restitution, compensation, rehabilitation, satisfaction, and guarantees of non-repetition. In the United States, we have seen some success with restitution for Black and Native Americans (such as land return), but there is no guarantee of non-repetition of harm without systemic compensation for rehabilitation that truly satisfies the community. The struggle continues.

Thus, we offer this collection both as informed analysis from a diverse group of authors and as a call to action. How might you make amends for the wrongs of our past and present, to impact our future? We hope these articles enlighten and inspire you to commit to the principles of reparations; and to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for the global majority.
