This little article about Love UT Give UT reminds us that we need to think about how to start such campaigns with a lineup of companies that give matching grants. The Community Foundation of Utah sponsored the online Love UT Give UT event on March 22. The event raised somewhere in the neighborhood of $900,000 with matches, and nearly 400 nonprofits will benefit. Love UT Give UT reportedly cost the foundation $60,000, so it’s happy with the ROI. The event used a few other incentives, such as giving additional awards to three organizations in four categories (small, medium, and large organizations, and a special category for schools) that attracted the largest number of unique donors. This encouraged the participating nonprofits to make liberal use of social media, making the whole event work better. –Ruth McCambridge
