Iris M. Crawford is the Climate Justice Editor at NPQ. Her roots are in environmental grassroots organizing, where she has helped frontline communities get the resources needed to strengthen their resilience. Organizing with the NAACP and Local Clean Energy Alliance has shown her what successful people-powered movements can be. As a first-generation Guyanese-American and a native New Yorker, Iris has covered solutions around the just transition, environmental science, decarbonization debates, and the intersections between race, culture, and climate inequity. Her work has appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, Sojourners Magazine, AGU’s Eos, and Prism, among other publications. Iris is an alumna of Oakland Voices, a community journalism program out of the Maynard Institute of Journalism Education and is a 2021-22 CASW Taylor/Blakeslee Fellow. She is also a steering committee member of The Uproot Project —a support network of environmental journalists of color. Iris holds a master's in science writing from MIT.
