Obama Meets with Gates and Buffett on Giving Pledge

Ruth McCambridge
July 19, 2011

July 18, 2011; Source: The Washington Post | Consider this a placeholder. The president will meet with Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett on their Giving Pledge initiative “to discuss how private philanthropy can be funneled toward national challenges”. This simple positive statement papers over a lot of concerns that have been raised regarding the potential of undue influence over public systems being exerted by billionaire philanthropy. Please see these Newswires (here and here) on the criticisms of billionaire philanthropy in public systems.—Ruth McCambridge
