July 21, 2011; Source: Hartford Courant | PETA, of many and varied controversial ad campaigns, has offered to save a new endangered species — the Connecticut River Ferries — which are threatened by state budget cuts. Specifically, it is offering to place ads on the ferries to help keep them afloat. A letter sent to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who has proposed closing the ferries on August 25 if concessions with the union are not reached, even provided the proposed advertising image and slogan – “Throw animals a lifeline – go vegan.” Apparently the proposal has not been rejected and is under consideration.—Ruth McCambridge
