Following NPQ’s highly successful “Mastering the Business Model” series last year, this year, we are highlighting business-model bright spots to show what mastering a business model looks like in practice. This webinar series focuses on groups that have done something purposeful and special to strengthen their business models. These are stories we can all learn from, full of replicable strategies and cautionary guidance.

Our second bright spot focuses on how social justice values and strategies can manifest clearly in a thriving nonprofit business model. Community Coalition of South Los Angeles, which works to help transform social and economic conditions in South L.A., has grown into a $6 million-a-year organization that owns its own building, has a growing community membership program, throws a must-attend annual event, and successfully raises money from foundations and government agencies. The Coalition has achieved this scale and influence as it has continued to center the people of South L.A.
How can nonprofits do this? How can they get big, gain political influence, achieve greater financial sustainability and independence, all while centering social justice values and strategies? Join Community Coalition’s Vice-President of Organizational Development Leslie Cooper Johnson to learn how they did it. NPQ’s Jeanne Bell will moderate the discussion after Ms. Johnson shares the Coalition’s story and lessons learned.
