July 21, 2010; Source: Bay City News | I’m perplexed about the inclusion of the Tides Foundation in the itinerary of Byron Williams, the heavily armed gunman intercepted by police on his way to shoot up the Tides Foundation and the American Civil Liberties Union. ACLU is a more recognizable target of the right, but Tides? The Tides Foundation has been around since the 70’s and is progressive but is generally low key. Apparently the key may be in Glenn Beck’s diagramming of the great leftist conspiracy. Williams’ mother said he had been made angry by what he heard about the left wing on the TV news and Beck, according to this Salon article rails against Tides on a regular basis, complete with blackboard diagrams.—Ruth McCambridge
