February 11, 2010; The New York Times | When it comes to charity, Olympic snowboarder Hannah Teter can get downright cheeky about it. The gold medalist, who already sells maple syrup to raise money for clean water projects and shelter for AIDs victims in Africa, is now lending her name and backside to a line of women’s panties of which some of the proceeds will be donated to individual nonprofits. According to the Web site, “You pick a pair of Sweet Cheeks and a donation will be made with each purchase to people in need. It’s about gifting, in the name of peace, love, and posterior.” Charities are chosen on a rotating basis, and the current beneficiary is the medical aid group, Doctors Without Borders. Founded in 1971, the 27,000-strong global team of doctors provides aid in areas of crisis and operates independent of any political, military, or religious agendas. For every $18 spent on a pair of black panties that carry the slogan “Make Love Not War” on the rear, the charity will receive $5. According to the New York Times, Teeter aims to raise $100,000 for Haiti’s earthquake victims. Starting in April, money will go to Airline Embassadors International, (AAI) a network of students, medical professionals, families and retirees who volunteer as Ambassadors of Goodwill in their home communities and abroad. AAI provides humanitarian aid to children and families in need as well as relief and development to under-privileged communities worldwide.—Bruce Trachtenberg
