November 2, 2010; Source: The Journal Gazette | In Fort Wayne, Ind. Park Center, which treats severely mentally ill adults, recently cut 53 staff positions when it was faced with shifts in funding that required slashing $2.4 million from its budget. Of course, cuts to services to the seriously mentally ill result in people who need treatment and support ending up in jails and prisons and on the streets or in homeless shelters. Remember that NPQ ran a story last week about reports of Indiana State workers suggesting that parents dump their disabled children directly into homeless shelters.—Ruth McCambridge
