On Monday, entertainer RuPaul was the celebrity guest on a special nighttime edition of the long-running game show, The Price is Right. As such, he was asked to designate a charity to which an amount equal to the winnings of all the show’s contestants would be given. His choice was Planned Parenthood, a decision he had shared with the show and its host, Drew Carey, ahead of time.
Though fans of the show were split on the action, Planned Parenthood was nothing if not grateful, thanking him for choosing them and tweeting:
RuPaul “coming on down” to play for Planned Parenthood on @PriceIsRight is what we NEED right now! Thank you, @RuPaul 🙌

The performer, whose full name is RuPaul Andre Charles, told Marie Claire in 2017 that this is not the first time he has raised money for the cause, and that his mother used to work at Planned Parenthood.
“Women in our culture have been so marginalized and so really beaten down,” he said then. “We live in a masculine-dominated culture. How dare some man tell a woman what to do with her body. That is outrageous! Outrageous. As a human, that is a big issue for me that really strikes a chord.”
And striking that chord on The Price is Right is worth way more than the cash value of the gift, of course.—Ruth McCambridge
