D.C. Allen (b. 1993) (Apsáalooke/Crow, Del Curfman) is a contemporary Native American artist. Born and raised in Montana, D.C. is now based in Santa Fe. A member of the Crow Tribe of Montana, Allen’s work centers Indigenous presence, identity, and Contemporary Native American voices through large-scale, figure painting. He earned a BFA in Studio Arts and a BFA in Museum Studies from the Institute of American Indian Arts in 2017. His work through Faces of Our Land, an ongoing, community-centered project that brings together portraiture, interviews, and documentary practices to collaboratively represent contemporary Native lives. Working closely with participants, he creates images that foreground personal narrative, cultural continuity, and self-representation. His practice engages critically with histories of misrepresentation and appropriation, while actively uplifting Native voices across communities. Through this work, D.C. contributes to expanding the visibility of Indigenous perspectives within museum and public contexts, emphasizing collaboration, sovereignty, and the power of lived experience.
