The New Harvest Project with Iris M. Crawford-Maskell

How can we achieve a sustainable food production system that values the actual cost of labor, acknowledges history, and minimizes environmental harm?

The New Harvest is a storytelling advocacy project that showcases New York’s local farming and food systems. The project looks at how farmers, educators, and land stewards respond to and develop solutions to current political, environmental, and social challenges. While it exists to amplify policy impact, share resources, and uplift movements, The New Harvest is rooted in joy.

As a multimedia project, The New Harvest features original reporting, a video podcast and a living resource hub and serves as a guide to inform and shape what a sustainable and fortified food system can look like. NPQ is a partner and co-publisher of The New Harvest’s reporting.

Iris M. Crawford-Maskell is the founder and creator of The New Harvest Project and an editor at NPQ. Her work focuses on the intersections of food, agriculture, climate justice, and solutions around the just transition. Connect with her on LinkedIn.
