February 8, 2010; New York Times | Courtney Martin wanted help in giving away an income windfall so she enlisted nine friends and charged them with giving away her money in creative, thoughtful ways. This has resulted in a type of Guerilla theatre of kindness that sparks the imagination in the same way that “Playing it Forward” did. Martin likes to quote Dr. Martin Luther king  “Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted,” Martin Luther King Jr. It is not necessarily high impact, strategic philanthropy, but Martin’s deeply human approach has inspired the creation of groups of small donors who gather to celebrate friendship and generosity.—Lissette Rodríguez
