    Perhaps another part of the problem is the inaccurate characterization of these nonprofits as “city-funded”. These are private nonprofit businesses that have contracts with the City and/or State. We don’t refer to private contractors that build roads as “city-funded road builders.” And, the road builders’ contracts include full costs plus profit. Somehow “city-funded” seems to equate to “so we don’t have to pay a fair and reasonable amount.”

    It is a very sad comment on our values as a society when individuals who care for our children and our
    elderly parents have to fight to earn as much as a fast food worker.
