    It’s the first time since Trump was elected that I have felt a ray of hope for this nation. Maybe sanity still has a chance. At least I hope so.

There is nothing more encouraging about these results than the possibility of reversing voter suppression efforts, and what a wonderful and improbable thing to start in Alabama! Also encouraging is Jones’ determination to frame his victory as being about bridge building attributes (“respect, dignity”) rather than about beating back the villains. The right and the left are given to that destructive rhetoric. Jones ran against a guy who does appear to have engaged in real villainy. Still, the Senator-elect seems to have risen above the temptation to vilify. (Or maybe he just outsourced that role to Charles Barkley!). Again, valuable reflections from NPQ and a heartening outcome.
