I just moved into what is essentially an 500 sq. ft. accessory dwelling unit in my daughter’s back yard in Worthington, Ohio. It is attached to the back of her unattached garage. To pass zoning restrictions, an open breezeway was built from the house to garage so it isn’t legally a separate unit. The planning/zoning commission was very helpful in making it happen, although they were quite specific that it can’t be a rental unit. I love being so close to my daughter and her family. I’m retiring in a couple of years and as I age it gives both my daughter & I security. I should also say the neighbors have been quite supportive.
