    Our local community foundation does the same thing. I mentioned it in a board meeting. Before I could finish a board member got very excited. I then explained that I wanted them to hear about it from me and understand that we, as an organization, were not ready for such a campaign and would not pursue it until we were. I went on to explain why we weren’t ready for it and, in the end, the board agreed with me.

      congratulations! It takes chutzpah and wisdom to turn an offer of money away but such offers are sometimes a Trojan horse for nonprofits.
