January 25, 2010; CNN | As news about Obama’s intention to implement a freeze on certain areas of domestic spending is being unveiled, so is his proposal—made at the recommendation of his Middle Class Task Force—to increase child care subsidies through a doubling of the child care tax credit for middle class families and through a $1.6 billion expansion of a voucher program for lower income families. If this confusion of proposals was intended to impress anyone with its central thesis, it has probably not done its job.—Ruth McCambridge
