After reading Black Elk Speaks and his description of boxes, or buildings, that would restrict indigenous freedoms, I was inspired to transform children’s toys into statements of colonization. White buildings that seem to haunt with natural stone rosaries are used to break the spirit of matriarchal lineage, nomadic lifestyles, and indigenous rites of passage. Static structures and ideas that were in direct opposition to the impermanence of nomadic lifestyles.
