    This is such nonsense. The Met is sitting on millions of dollars in unused assets, art it keeps in the basement and never shows. If it sold some of these items to smaller museums, the public would benefit from being able to see these items and from being spared appeals from a wealthy institution which got itself into a hole. I know de-accessioning is considered the sin of all sins among museums, but in the real world selling art to other museums is a positive good and if the Met refuses to take advantage of this face it will have to beg philanthropic support from someone other than me. Small nonprofits which have no such cushion have a far better claim to my generosity.
