The NBC-owned WTVJ-Miami launched a team of investigators last year to do hard-hitting stories about issues that affect South Florida and now it has announced it will partner with the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting (FCIR) to “enhance its local investigative reporting capabilities.” FCIR is a bilingual news organization on a digital platform. It has, according to this TVNewsCheck article, been focused on exposés of “corruption, waste and inefficiencies of justice.” It has received numerous awards for its journalism. The partnership will allow the two entities to develop stories together, share content and conduct research and investigations.
Sharon Rosenhause, president of the board of FCIR, said that FCIR was started with the intention to collaborate, and the new relationship with WTVJ will produce a greatly expanded reach, among other things. Similar partnerships have been forged by NBC-owned stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Diego. –Ruth McCambridge
