Undaunted and Before Congress: Tam Tran’s Testimony on Undocumented Students
As undocumented immigrants, many young people can be derailed from pursuing their dreams. Tam Tran, an undocumented student, organizer, and documentary flmmaker, testified before Congress on her marginalized, liminal state as one such student. She graduated from UCLA in 2006 where she was part of IDEAS, a support and advocacy group for undocumented students, and, with Prerna Lal, contributes Undocumented but Undaunted: Immigrant Youth at Work in the Nonprofit Sector to this issue of NPQ. Senate and House Divergence in FY2010 Appropriations for Nonprofits
Appropriations start in the House of Representatives, but require action from the Senate as well in order to pass a budget. The Senate’s Committee on Appropriations started to make some budget headway just this past week, passing a number of bills that will require negotiations and blending with their House Appropriations counterparts in conference committee.
