    Personally, I say just get away from bail and bonds for serious offences entirely. No matter rich or poor, you sit in jail (or more preferably are put to some sort of positive work in your community like picking up trash, patching potholes, mowing, tearing down condemned houses, etc) until your court date. Not only would it completely eliminate the perceived inequality, it would do two things: 1) make sure no one ends up skipping town before they go to trail and 2) it might actually instil some fear of consequences in the criminal element if jail time were something other than time to lift weights and sit around on your backside in a cell.

    Plus, I would really love to see some billionaire swindler reduced to picking up litter.
