    I would like further clarification on the first example: Why do people think that recognition plaques send the wrong message to the students and faculty?
    In the second example, I can understand objecting to the donor’s other demands, I don’t understand the hostility towards the idea of allowing the donor to rename the school. Perhaps there’s more to it than mentioned here?

    I don’t understand the first story because recognizing donors is key to nonprofit fund developing — a plaque is nominal. The citizens of Abington have decided that they would prefer funding the $25 million renovation themselves from taxes or bond issues rather than taking Mr Schwarzman’s money — that’s their prerogative.
